part-time evening position

part-time job description

Applicants must be prompt, dependable and diligent. Candidate should possess knowledge of books and other library resources. Staff must enjoy working with people as well as promote public relations between the community and library. Staff need to monitor behavior and conduct of patrons in the library. Employees must work in a friendly and cooperative manner with all patrons and staff members, with minimal supervision and under pressure. Patrons must always be served first. Attending staff meetings is a requirement. Staff are supervised and report to the Director, Assistant Director. Library Assistant, and the Youth Services Librarian.  

Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

 Hours:
  •  Varies from 8-12 hours per week.
  •  Requires evenings 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM & 2 Saturdays 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM per month.
  • Ability to work substitute shifts on short notice is also required.
  • Must be willing to assist during programs to fill in for co-workers as needed

Responsibilities include:
  • Check library materials in/out
  • Collect fines or payments
  • Register new patrons
  • Assist patrons with reference requests
  • Make Copies, Faxes and scan documents
  • Clean all incoming DVD’s, CD’s & Audio Books prior to shelving
  • Effectively use a multi-line phone system, i.e. answer phone and make calls to patrons
  • Lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds and maneuver a book cart weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to climb stairs, reach and stoop to retrieve items close to the floor
  • Prepare and unload interlibrary loan shipments
  • Clean public computers, tables and chairs
  • Schedule use of the community room
  • Shelve all items accurately
  • Organize and clean shelves
  • Complete assigned jobs left by the Director, Assistant Director, Library Assistant or Youth Services Librarian
 Additional Requirements:
  • Mend books
  • Prepare new books for circulation
  • Operate copy machine, cold and hot lamination, microfilm/fiche reader/printer
  • Maintain bulletin boards & Create library displays
  • Assist during programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or required
Salary
Salary starts at $10.75 an hour; pay will increase to $11.00 an hour after 90 days and a positive evaluation.

Library employee checks are dispersed after the monthly board meeting which is held the first Monday of the month.
