POSITION: FULL TIME YOUTH SERVICES/CIRCULATION ASSISTANT
DUTIES: (Not an Exhaustive List)
The Children/Teen Librarian must hold or be able to obtain an Indiana Librarian Certificate 9 (LC6). An LC6 requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus 3 years of library experience or 9 credit hours of college level Library Science which can be obtained throughout employment. An LC6 must be renewed every 5 years. Obtaining 75 Library Education Units (LEU’s) is required for renewal. Of the 75 required LEUs, 20 of them must be Technology Library Education Units (TLEU’s).
HOURS:
This is a full-time position that will require some evenings and weekends.

SUPPLIMENTAL NOTICE:
Person hired must be willing to learn the Library Clerk position during the first 90 days of employment, at the appropriate salary. Promotion to Teen Librarian will occur after satisfactory completion of the 90-day probationary period.
Library employee checks are dispersed after the monthly board meeting which is held the first Monday of the month.
- Responsibly plan, prepare and present programs throughout the year
- Create and maintain a welcoming atmosphere in the children and teen department(s)
- Attend professional meetings and workshops as required
- Supervise patrons in the children and teen department(s)
- Plan outreach programs in the community
- Maintain regular visits with the schools and daycares
- Participate in collection development and weeding within the children and teen department(s)
- Perform circulation duties as needed
- Communicate with the Director and Assistant Director about upcoming programs and events
- Maintain participant statistics for all programs and events
- Prepare monthly program schedules, a weekly or bi-weekly nighttime program will be expected
- Assist the Director and/or Assistant Director with expanding the teen collection
- Perform other duties assigned by the Director and/or Assistant Director
- Ability to adapt to a changing work schedule
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Possess shelf reading and organizational skills
- Understand the need for punctuality
- Ability to communicate effectively with other staff members
- Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office and Publisher
- Ability to apply for grants
- Ability to multitask
- Comfortable using computers in order to perform circulation desk duties using Evergreen ILS and OPAC
- If not already familiar, willing to be trained to use copy machine, laminator, microfilm/fiche reader/printer, and typewriter
- Shelving of materials in the library
- Shelf reading
- Answer telephones and direct questions to appropriate personnel
- Willingness to help out wherever needed
- Open to covering for fellow employees without prior notice
